Yorkshire Water pledge to take action at sewage hit farm
Skeeby farmer's social media plea results in removal of manhole cover
Regular readers may well remember the terrible sewage spillage which was preventing a North Yorkshire farmer from even using some of his land for grazing. After Jono Richardson posted this callout for help on Facebook, we were in touch with Yorkshire Water (YW) to find out what was going on.
It’s taken a couple of weeks, but now we’re happy to report that Yorkshire Water will be doing work to repair the manhole cover in his field next week.
A YW spokeswoman said work to stop the spillage and make arrangements for fencing at the land in Skeeby would go now go ahead.
“We appreciate the patience and co-operation of the customer whilst our teams have been working to understand and resolve this issue. We have arranged for the manhole to be removed to prevent any further sewer escapes and will continue our investigations to determine the cause and impact. Any further action will be determined following the results of these investigations."“
In response, Jono said: “After it appeared on Facebook they did finally get onboard. I’m happy they are going to fix that problem but I’m not happy that we still haven’t had any clean up and we lost ten months of grazing.”
Any potential compensation for the loss in income for the farm is still to be discussed with YW after further tests and investigations.
