Welcome to the 75th edition of the The Northern Eco. Here’s a round-up of events coming up across North Yorkshire and the North East for those with a greener heart.

Could you write an eco-hit?

Musicians from around the world are invited to take part in a competition to create an anthem for the environment. The international competition to find music for the global ecology movement has been announced by Artists Project Earth (APE) and The Resurgence Trust, which publishes The Ecologist online and the Resurgence & Ecologist magazine. They say:

“Whether from professional studios or home recordings, all submissions are welcome as long as they have not been released previously. The competition offers three cash prizes of up to £2000, and winners will have the opportunity to get their songs professionally recorded in the UK.”

• Dragonfly Discovery talk and walk event at Bank Woods, Summerbridge, in Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday 29 June.

• Himalayan Gardens Naked Heart Walk on Saturday 29 June from 4 - 7pm.

  Please note this is a clothing-optional experience by British Naturism

• Growing Food in a Changing Climate on Monday 1 July from 10am - 12pm​​ at Middlesbrough Environment City. A look at the challenges of allotment growing and farming in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.

• Wednesday 3 July: Northallerton - People, Planet, Pint: Sustainability Meetup from 6pm.

• A Green Drinks Social Event – Climate Action Ilkley is taking place on Wednesday 3 July from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm at The Lister Arms, Wetherspoons, Ilkley.

• Farm business planning for environment and nature markets. In person event: Incorporating environmental grants and nature markets into farm business planning on Thursday 4 July from 10:30am - 12:30pm at

  Parklands Sports & Social Club, Doncaster.
