Welcome to the 72nd edition of the The Northern Eco. Here’s a round-up of events coming up across North Yorkshire and the North East for those with a greener heart.

Also from today until Thursday 20 June, Wilding at Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle tells the inspirational story of a young couple that bets on nature for the future of their failing, four-hundred-year-old estate.
An Eco Day is being held at The Station, Richmond, North Yorkshire on Saturday 15 June from 10am - 4pm.
Stockton-on-Tees is holding an Environment Fair on Saturday 15 June in the High Street.
Tom Moorhouse ‘Elegy for a River’ is on Saturday 15 June at Richmond Town Hall 7.30pm. Discover the wonderful world of water voles, and the conservation challenges they face at this illustrated talk based on the book. Tom, an ecologist and author, will explain what conservation research actually does, why it hasn't yet achieved the outcomes we all want and need - but why he still has hope for our collective future. Tickets £10/£5 from or Richmond Information Centre (in Richmond Market Hall).
Help the rangers: BioBlitz for Great Big Green Week Help celebrate Great Big Green Week by joining this BioBlitz through Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Sunday 16 Jun 2024 at 10:00 - 16:00.
Roger Morgan-Grenville ‘Across a Waking Land’ is on Sunday 16 June at Richmond Town Hall 7.30pm. Join Roger to discover more from this acclaimed nature writer about his 1000-mile walk from the Solent to Cape Wrath at this illustrated talk. Following Spring northwards and concerned by species loss in the UK, he met the people helping to reverse it - from the allotments of Sheffield, the peat bogs of Kielder and regenerative farming in the Cotswolds to the reintroduction of beavers near Inverness. Tickets £10/£5 and Richmond Information Centre.
