What's On: Eco Events February 2025

Welcome to the 120th edition of The Northern Eco. Here’s a round-up of events coming up across North Yorkshire and the North East this month for those with a greener heart. It exists thanks to our brilliant paying subscribers. 🙏

• Community volunteer tree planting in Gilsland, Brampton, on Saturday 1 February. Register for free here.

• North Yorkshire Rotters will be at– Health Day Event (Hunmanby Community Centre, 35 Stonegate, Hunmanby, YO14 0NS) Saturday 1 Feb, 10:30-13:30

• People, Planet, Pint in Northallerton is back for 2025 starting on on Weds 5th February from 6pm.

• Save Our Swale is holding a coffee morning in Richmond Town Hall from 9am -12pm on Saturday, 8th February.

• North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival from February 14 to March 2, has various events lined up, including star parties and talks by renowned space scientist Maggie Aderin-Pocock. The festival will coincide with a rare planetary alignment of Venus, Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Uranus, and Neptune, enhancing the festival's stargazing events.

• Tuesday, 18 February sees a talk on The power of nature: Seagrass, Kelp and Oysters at Cliffords Fort, North Shields.

• Thursday, February 20 · 5:30 - 8pm is Newcastle Upon Tyne's Climate Change Forum at the Civic Centre, Barras Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne NE99 1NP.

• The Darlington Employers Environmental Partnership (DEEP) has announced its first Net Zero Marketplace Event will take place at the Dolphin Centre on Friday, February 21. Organisers are aiming for around 30 stalls, with businesses and other organisations showcasing energy-efficient products and initiatives. Details here.

• Join our Carbon Literacy training course with accreditation from the Carbon Literacy project from 2pm on Friday, February 21.

• Hot mess: What on earth can we do about climate change? by Dr Matt Winning is on Tuesday, 25 February from 5.30-6.30pm.
